The new Flash series is an integral part of the The Brightest Day storyline (which is the aftermath of DCs huge Blackest Night event which ended earlier this year). Once again, writer Geoff Johns is steering the ship, with Francis Manipul on art! For the variant cover to issue #3, I was asked to do something iconic.  Sounds easy, but this is tougher than it sounds.  I mean, how many ways can you show Flash running? I decided it would be best to focus in on the way his super speed affects his environment with a mini-tornado being created in his wake. I also like the aerodynamic streams passing by his head--kinda like a wind-tunnel test. The yellow lightning effect typically  represents the "Speed Force", but I have always liked the sense of friction it conveys.  Almost like Flash is running so fast the air is sparked as he cuts through it!
